The next generation of young entrepreneurs will be
strutting its stuff in the Orchards Shopping Centre on Saturday 8th February in
the hopes of tempting us, as well as perhaps a local venture capitalist, with
their million–dollar ideas. There are
seven Young Enterprise companies taking part, formed by students from our local
schools and each has had to create a real company which immerses them into the
world of business, helping to develop employability skills such as problem
solving, resilience, confidence, teamwork, initiative, organisation and
creativity. Each company has had to plan the business from scratch: what
products to sell; how to source them; how to market them; and, of course, how
to balance the books, pay VAT and Corporation Tax and, hopefully, make a
profit.
The companies, from Warden Park, Imberhorne, Sackville,
Millais, Hurstpierpoint College and Richard Collyers. The Orchards is sponsoring this Young
Enterprise day and Manager, Nicola Bird, is delighted to be hosting this Start-Up
Show: “Supporting Young Enterprise is exactly what we all must do; they are our
success stories of the future. Big global companies began with just such ideas
and it would be great to see one of our young entrepreneurs reach such dizzy
heights in years to come; wouldn’t we be so proud?”
